Black History Month Projects

   When February rolls around every student knows they will hear the words, "Black History project . . ."  As students you have probably done more than your share of these projects.  What is your perspective?  Should students be required to continuously do Black History projects?  Why?  Do you actually learn anything from them, or are you "burned-out" from doing the "same old, same old"?

    I feel that Black History projects are necessary, because you will learn something new every time you create one Black history projects are relevant to our culture, heritage, and past The way we become more familiar with these things we have to do research and projects

    I vote we keep Black History Month going under one condition. We learn about the same thing every months, and it isn't smart to continue the month without adding if not changing the individuals we learn about each month.

    I think That We Should But Shouldnt Have To Be Reminded Of What Trials and tribulations we faced but we should embrace the ideal that early african americans embodied. They paved the way to a better way of life for us. They suffered and endured alot of things and we should commemorate and recognize what our ancestors' did to make our burdens lighter.

    @Destinee: I agree with what you said but i honestly think that we shouldnt have to have a national holiday just to give our ancestors' credit but we should rather present ourselves in a manner that embodies what our ancestors had in mind. we should be appreciative towards what helped to make our cause.

    I agree. I feel that everybody should learn about the history of black people because it changed the lives of others and still today. It is good that we learn about Black History month, and how it changed America. :)

    i think that we should do black history projects but we should swich it around every year. we should do different periods of our history and choose a person that made the biggest different during that period. every year we do the same old projects on Martin luther Kings Jr. and the other few people that the teachers choose. this gives us a chance to open our eyes to the many more heros before them.

    I think we still need black history projects in our english classes. Most students dont know the importance of african americans in our country.So we need to know all the inventions and struggles that they did for us to live today.

    @Destinee: I agree, but if you keep doing the same project on the same person... Nothing will be learned and its useless. Plus there are many people that attributed helping us to rise as a people that have not gotten one project in thei honor. I say keep it just switch it up who you do it on

    Today i feel we need more projects to promote black history month. If u really think about it its fading away, because to me it feel like a regular month. We need more projects in documentaries to get us deep in our history.Understand the big picture of our history.!

    @shamarques... i agree with you, most students dont know the importance of african american history. if they knew the history behind some of the inventions we use and that african americans made them they would be more greatful to learn about it.

    My perspective for doing Black History projects are because they help us learn more about our history,culture,and whre we come from. I think that students should continue to do Black History projects because most students don't know about their history,culture,or where they came from this is why students should continue to do Black History projects. I think that when you do do Black History projects you do actually learn something. What I don't understand is why? students don't like to do Black History projects when they actually learn something. Can someone PLEASE answer this question for me.

    In most school you do not even do black history project. The school that i have gone to havent required me to do one in a while. I havent done one since 4th grade.

    Katelyn said... Since February is the shorter month in the year, we should incorporate more than we have already. Starting with more black history projects, events, and learning. Our school focuses on history mainly because we are a predominantly black school. Although we do study black history starting from slavery, to immigration, to innovation there is still more to learn simply because we have taken these things for granted.

    I myself have done a lot of Black History Projects. I thinkg that we as students shouldnt have to do one every year. Doing the same ole projects about the same people is played out. We should do projects in the 2nd, 5th, 7th, 9th, and 12th, or something like that. Space the project out so we can look forward to doing the project. Besides that we do learn a lot. Their are a lot of History that we dont know about and that we need to know. When you are in classes like History, Us History, African American, and any other Histoy class can give you different views. Black History is ,some as African American, something we need to know.

    First of all I believe that black history projects are very beneficial.There are centries of events that have shaped this modern America involving African Americans. The only thing about black history is that alot of modern african americans want a spot in this history.Ask yourself when i turn on the news how often do reporters talk about the first black this or that.This is the only thing about Back history that i dislike. I believe that it is all up to the teacher weather the teacher wants a project done. I dont complain about them becaouse i seem to almost always find something interesting.

    As A Black African American Teenager , I Absolute Love Black History Month. I Feel That This Month Of Black History Is Very Necessary Because Every Year You Learn Something New About Someone Different, Male Or Female. As Us Students I Believe We Should Be Able To Continuously Do Projects About Our Sisters And Brothers Because They Have Done So Much For Us And Without Them Some Of The Rights And Laws We Have Today Wouldn't Have Been Established. I Have Learned So Much From When I Was In The First Grade From Learning About Martin Luther King Jr. ! I Think Black History Is Appropriate For Our Age Beacuse When We Grow Up , We Can Share What They Did For Us With Our Next Generation.

    Yes, we should be required to continue doing black history for so many reasons. One is because we should know a lot more about how, what, and who help us get where we are today. And also because it well help us understand more about thing that are happening today. There is so much we can learn just by doing to black history projects. And a fun way to learn about our history!

    to me really it's not so bad doing a black history project or report each year. you can do a different person each time and or either try building the actual object. you can learn new facts about that person and their inventions or accomplishments. i think you should be proud to do the projects because you'll love to have someone do a report about you on your accomplishmeants, inventions, facts etc.

    I feel as though it isn't really necessary to do Black History Projects because we do the same thing every year. We should at least do a unique type of project each year. We should switch up. I know a lot about Martin Luther King and Rosa Parks. It seems as though we learn about these two same people each year. That is my perspective of Black History projects.

    Black History month is a very necessary holiday month. This upcoming generation has been introduced to so many negative influences. Our generation is slowly degenerating. Black History month well bring us to our roots. It will show how our people struggled and triumphed through the chains of opression. Even though I am in high school it is good for me to go deeper in the roots of my people. Sometimes its gets old hearing about the same people, but the new generation will enjoy the stories of their people.

    Black history month is very important to the black community. Projects are given to us so that we can learn something new. Every year I have learned something new from my projects. We have many awesome blacks that have changed the world forever. We also have many blacks that have accomplished so much, like being the first to do something. Blacks have proved that they're are not lower than whites. We should learn more about our culture in the school system. As long as I'm in school, I would love to do a black history projects.

    I believe that we should be required to do a black history month project every year. The reason why i say this is because, it will remind us of who we are and where we came from. Also every year we learn new things about black history and learn about people who help bring many African American’s out of slavery. If it wasn’t for many of the African American women and men we probably would still be here now. Most students’ don’t complain about the projects because it can show people how creative we they are and how much they know about black history.so i say........BLACK HISTORY PROJECTS.

    I strongly disagree with your comment about Black history Projects. They are a way of reconnecting with our lost roots. If you did several projects about different people, do another one on somebody you haven't researched. No one ever gets tired of learning something new. Yes, it is true that we always discuss the same people, but that is only because they broke many barriers that many people were scared to break. Their names will be legendary throught the course of history.

    I personally feel like having to do Black History month projects every year ,is slightly unnecessary. We should be allowed to have orderly open discussion about how we feel about the subject, instead of having to bend and break every year. However, I also feel that we are put to the test to research different African American leaders and allow other races to learn about how we came about in the society that we live in today :)

In fact, every year I have done a black history project it has been on several different people. Explore a little, it's lots of people you haven't heard before. Trust me, I would never steer you wrong!

    It's good to have Black History Month and projets because it reminds us of how hard our people worked and what accomplishments they achieved in the past. I believe that Black History Projects shouldn't be required though because you would be doing the same thing every year. It's good to have them still because in the end you learn something new

    I, for one, think we should keep doing black history projects and lavishly thank our teachers for making us do them. Okay, maybe I'm exaggerating a bit but we should be honored to do black history projects. I mean, it is the least we can do to pay tribute to the brave African-Americans who contributed to helping us achieve a measure of freedom. Seriously, to think that various African-American and Caucasian leaders and social reformers struggled, and even forfeited their human bodies to relay their teachings and messages to future generations is mind-blowing. Well, they can be proud that they died because it was not in vain. Their spirits live on in one human body, and it's owner is JESHAUN POWELL!!!!!!!!!!

I dont know how you would know about all the people that has fought for our rights. if it wasnt for those people we wouldn't be able to do some of the things now.     I think Black History projects are necessary. You can learn something new everytime you make one. However,we should change it around every year. We should do projects on different African Americans instead of the same ones when Black History month comes around. When we do these projects we learn about our culture and past. We get to see the things that they did for us. But if the teachers keep telling us and having us to research on the same people we will never expand our learning on other African Americans that did successful things.

    I think we shouldnt have 2 do black history projects.I think that we should have the choice 2 do it if we want 2 nt by grade.Most kids dnt 2 much care bout it we just do it 4 the grade so they really dnt learn anything from it so whats the point of making someone do it who doesnt care

    Black history projects are great. We should keep on doing them. I personally learn something new every year from these projects. Its so many great people who has done so much for us that are left unnoticed. They MUST be noticed!

    We don't necessarily have to write reports for the black history project. We could just do plays or write poems about our black leaders or something as easy as that.

    I agree with Rolynda, we can learn something new about our people every year around. We built the pyrimads, which is known as the greatest architecture that was ever created.Our people are hard working people.

    Yes, i feel like students should have to do black history projects! Why? Well from my point of view i think we should know about our past & our ancestors. Learning never gets old & you always get something out of it in the long run! It shouldnt be a need it should be a want, we should enjoy things that made us who we are and just to close this comment... YES STUDENTS SHOULD KEEP DOING BLACK HISTORY PROJECTS,OR AT LEAST EVERY COUPLE OF YEARS DOING THEM!!(&&THEY SHOULD ENJOY THEM.).... WE SHOULD EVEN CELEBRATE MORE THEN IN FEBURARY!!!

    Every year students dread Black History projects. Either they seem pointless, students are lazy, or they feel like they learn nothing. Being in love with Social Studies and History, I learn things new and do different projects every year. What my ancestors and blacks have done for me and America somewhat intrigues me and hinders me to high interest.

    For me it is a little situational. Either I feel that if I do the project I'll see different people to learn about instead of Dr. King or Malcolm X but, that is a lie. Other times I just what to do it for a big grade. Don't get me wrong, I love the month, but hate the projects. Sometimes we just get plain overloaded with projects. Still I think it is important to learn about ourselves.

    I feel black history projects are good for learnig. But who wants to do the same thing and learn about the same people every year.There should be something different something should change. When people constantly have people do the same thing they dont even try to do the work .All they have to do is get the work their older family member has done.
